Regular dental check-ups can prevent the need for major dental work in the future and is far more cost effective than allowing problems to go on undetected.

It is almost never too early to get into the healthy habit of six-monthly dental visits. Children as young as three years of age are advised to visit the dentist for a regular check-up and clean so that they become familiarised with their local Dental Clinic to help maximise their chances of achieving lifelong dental health.

What Are Crowns?

A dental crown, sometimes referred to as a cap, is permanently bonded to a particular tooth to improve aesthetics and function. A crown can be fitted https://www.healthsupportyou.com/cialis-tadalafil/ over the remaining part of almost any prepared tooth and, if properly maintained, can last 15 years or more. When there is insufficient dental enamel to allow restoration with a dental veneer, a crown may be successfully used instead.

Crowns can be used in restorations involving:

  • heavily repaired or broken teeth
  • discoloured fillings
  • a tooth needing protection following root canal therapy.

The shape, size, colour and surface characteristics of a crown are precisely matched to surrounding teeth and provide a seamless and lasting restoration

What Are Fillings?

One of the most common dental treatments, fillings provide a way to restore a tooth that has been damaged by dental decay. They can also prevent further decay to the area.

Types of Filling

There are two types of filling material, each with its own advantages. Your dentist will talk through with you which of these are more suitable for you, depending on the area that needs to be filled.

What is Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal therapy (or RCT) is treatment of the infected nerve of a tooth. When bacteria penetrate the centre of the tooth, called the pulp – which consists of sensitive nerves and blood vessels inside the root canal – this part of the tooth can become inflamed and infected, causing pain. If the condition is left untreated, an abscess can form at the root tip and bacteria can spread to the jawbone and the rest of the body.

Infection within a tooth can be treated either by extraction or with root canal therapy. The purpose of root canal therapy is to save the tooth which is done by removing the affected pulp and cleaning the nerve canals with an anti-bacterial preparation, followed by the placement of a temporary filling inside the tooth until a permanent filling and/or crown can be placed.

The immediate benefit of root canal therapy is significant pain relief. In the longer term, the treatment allows for preservation of the tooth. At Happy Smiles our practitioners will always strive to save a tooth, where possible, rather than remove it.

The cost of Root Canal Treatment will vary according to the number of root canals present in a tooth. All patients will receive a detailed treatment plan and estimate of fees prior to any treatment commencing.

Why would I need a tooth extraction?

While tooth extraction is not usually the first option for treating dental disorders, sometimes a tooth may need to be removed. Some of the reasons why a tooth may need to be extracted include:

  • Significant decay or damage to the tooth
  • Infected tooth
  • Gum disease
  • To improve appearance, such as with orthodontic treatment
  • Extensive tooth cracks
  • Poor positioning or functionality

Dentures are one alternative to replacing missing or lost teeth. This cosmetic dental treatment can assist people to feel more confident when smiling and enhance the ability to function and eat a wide range of foods.

There are three types of dentures:

  • A Full Denture
  • A Partial Denture
  • An Implant Retained Denture

What is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening is a quick and easy way to improve the look of your smile – it’s one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments available. It involves breaking down the discolouration so that your teeth look whiter. Whether the process will work for you depends largely on the cause of your discolouration.

Whitening Options

Given the different causes of discolouration, it is important to have your dentist thoroughly assess your dental health to determine whether teeth whitening will be an effective treatment for you.

Here at Happy Smiles we have two teeth whitening treatment options available: at-home teeth whitening and in-chair teeth whitening.

Prosthodontics is the field of dentistry that focuses on replacing missing teeth and or the restoration of teeth that require crowns, veneers, bridges, implants, dentures or any combination of these. The term prosthodontics means, literally, “Tooth replacement”.

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin shells permanently bonded to the surfaces of teeth to improve their position, shape and shade, as well the overall aesthetics of a person’s smile.

Dental veneers are a cosmetic solution to a variety of scenarios, including:

  • aged veneers needing replacement
  • spaces between teeth
  • broken, crooked or badly chipped or worn teeth
  • Permanently stained or discoloured teeth.
